| TWIN DENTURE TECHNIQUE
Johns Dental Laboratories are pleased to offer Twin Denture service to our customers. The economical Twin Denture technique from Johns Dental will save you
chair time. Your patient will never be troubled by being without a denture before, during or after treatment.
The Twin Denture technique is used when delivering immediate full dentures. It can be utilized on either single or double arch treatment. The technique is designed to provide a temporary denture to wear during the healing process, plus an exact twin set in wax to be processed as the final denture. The system comes complete with surgical trays, custom trays for taking the final impression, and the twin denture.
Office and Laboratory Procedures
1. Standard office procedures for preparation and impressions are followed. Send models poured in buff stone for fabrication of prosthesis. Either the dentist may trim the teeth from the model in office or a Johns Dental denture technician will trim them in the Laboratory. Include the proper bite with these models. Indicate tooth shade and mould for final denture at this time.
2. The Laboratory will proceed with the case according to the prescription. The temporary acrylic dentures, surgical trays, custom trays and wax tryin twins will be returned to the office. All appliances have been constructed on the same models and with the same articulation.
3. Proceed with extractions and insertion of temporary dentures, using surgical splints as necessary.
4. In many cases, no changes are necessary on the try in denture, and it can often be finished without another
trying. During the healing process, the patient may become comfortable with the appearance of the teeth and may not want a change. However, depending upon the amount of resorption, the anteriors may need to be lengthened or the vertical slightly increased. All of these changes can be made in the
try in twin.
5. If it is desirable to re-register the bite relationship, place very soft carding wax over the occlusals of the posterior teeth. Instruct the patient to bite in the desired position. Remove when wax becomes slightly firm and chill thoroughly before packaging. An alternative method applying left and right plaster matrices can be used. Soft plaster is applied to the buccals of the posterior teeth with the patient holding to the desired position.
6. To prepare for final impressions, apply a narrow, thin layer of paste in the crest of the ridge in the
try in. Do not cover the entire intaglio. The purpose of the paste is merely to stabilize the
try in denture, not to take an impression.
7. Final impressions can be taken in the custom trays using rubber base or a syringe/tray method. Pour in buff stone and return to Johns Dental Laboratories. Indicate finish material at this time.
8. As before, the laboratory will proceed with the case according to the prescription. The finished dentures will be returned to the office. The temporary denture is given to the patient as a secondary set for use in an emergency.
