SILENCER® APPLIANCE
For the Treatment of Snoring and Sleep Apnea
An awakening has taken place in the last 25 years to the importance of sleep disorders. Many thousands of people suffer from any of a number of different sleep disorders which produce a variety of nocturnal and daytime symptoms. One important and common disorder is obstructive sleep apnea, which affects a substantial number of individuals in our society and produces significant medical, psychological, and social Sequelae. Obstructive apnea, defined as the cessation of airflow for at least 10 seconds, occurs because of recurrent airway closure during sleep. The majority of patients with OSA have a history of loud chronic snoring, associated with a combination of witnessed nocturnal apneas, unrefreshing sleep and daytime sleepiness. The Silencer ® has been acclaimed as a leading breakthrough for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea. The Silencer ® features:
- Elastomeric construction: Elastomer is a pliable material which offers the patient a much greater degree of comfort than harder acrylic materials.
- Adjustability: The Silencer ® offers a range of adjustment in the amount of vertical opening. The dentist may vary the opening by changing the stylus pin length to achieve the most comfortable position for the patient.
- The Halstrom Hinge: a commercially pure titanium component guaranteed for the life of the patient, to help achieve a balance of comfort and effectiveness.
- Compatibility with Dentures: the Silencer ® can be used for the partially or completely edentulous patient.
