The standard Herbst appliance is well known as an orthodontic appliance used to treat Class 2 correction cases. The Herbst can also be used to treat mild to moderate sleep apnea cases with only a few modifications. The telescopic mechanism advances the mandible into a forward position allowing an improved airway opening. The hard acrylic also makes this a durable sleep appliance. Johns Dental also offers the Herbst with the optional RMO attachments providing additional range of motion and flexibility.
