ANTERIOR DEVELOPMENT
(ANTERIOR-POSTERIOR EXPANSION)
The Sagittal appliance encourages either mesial or distal movement of teeth, depending on the use of anchorage. Originally, the Sagittal was designed for anterior/posterior development, though additional midline screws can also provide lateral expansion. Today, the Sagittal is often one of the first appliances used for arch development. The Sagittal can be constructed for either upper or lower arch, and utilizes one to four (usually two) screws to develop the arches. Johns Dental offers both fixed and removable versions.
The Transforce Sagittal is a pre-activated, arch lengthening appliance that fits into horizontal tubes that creates space by advancing the 3x3 mesially. This appliance is available in 3 upper and 3 lower sizes.
