The Thornton Adjustable Positioner® or TAP® is a mandibular advancement device for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea. All TAP products fit comfortably in the mouth and the compact hardware provides more room for the tongue. The interchangeable hooks accommodate Class l, Class ll and Class lll bites and increase the vertical distance between the upper and lower teeth.
The TAP 1 device consists of separate trays that fit over the upper and lower teeth. A mechanism attached to the upper tray hooks around a lingual bar attached to the lower tray and positions the lower jaw forward, preventing the soft tissue of the throat from collapsing and obstructing the airway. The front piece on the TAP permits the patient to adjust the protrusion of their lower jaw to the most effective and comfortable position.
