Witzig

The Witzig lower splint is a joint repositioning splint with heavy indexing to maintain the patient’s proper bite. This splint consists of high buccal and lingual walls to prevent lateral excursions and maintain hinge-axis occlusion. Anterior acrylic has been eliminated to facilitate speech and increase wearing comfort for the patient.

Once the patient’s mandible is in the correct position, the appliance should remain in place for three to six months to retrain muscles and allow ligaments to heal. This splint should be worn 24/7 and must not be removed while eating. For more information about the Witzig splint call for our free Splint brochure.
